God often refers to the armies of heaven, or the Host of Heaven's armies. The Bible speaks often of God's kids being soldiers, fighting the good fight of faith or resisting the enemy. In an earthly army there are many positions, thousands upon thousands of men and women doing various tasks, from office work, cooking, cleaning, warehouse help, front line soldiers, back-up soldiers, and those who drive tanks and man the big guns. Regardless of their position or task, each person is vital and has a job to perform.
What about those of us who are in the army of God? What position do we hold? Are we those who help sustain others who go into combat, or are we a foot soldier who advances the kingdom of God, or maybe someone who mans the big guns that are aimed at destroying the enemy so the foot soldiers can advance? I love the way God set up earthly types and shadows of heaven for us to see in the Spirit realm. As we advance in our battles on earth, so we advance in the Spirit realm.
What are some of the battles we fight here on earth, battles that are aimed at keeping us from advancing the kingdom of God? One of the biggest battles is the maintaining of our faith in the face of adversity. Look at Romans 8:35-36:
35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36. As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
What shows its ugly head to defeat you in battle? What weapon does Satan use to take you out of the race to eternity? What is your position on the battlefield? Are you a front-line soldier who is taking the enemy bullets or are you manning one of the big guns, doing spiritual warfare so the kingdom of God can advance? It doesn't matter your position in the army because everyone is fair game for the enemy. Whatever your trial today, whatever distress, it is meant to take you out. If we only looked at this part of the warfare, we would lose hope quickly. However, if we read on in Romans, we will the majestic hand of God upon His soldiers.
37. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39. nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Whatever the battle today, whatever position you hold in God's great army, you can have great confidence that none of these evil weapons will be able to take you out because Jesus Christ has given you the power to conquer anything the enemy throws at you. I absolutely love verse 39 because it states that neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God. Friends, Satan is a created being. He is not God, and he does not hold power over God or us. Jesus says that He has given us authority over ALL the power of the enemy.
Some of us fight from behind the lines, shooting the big guns at the enemy from a distance through spiritual warfare. This position is not diminished in the eyes of God just because we are not on the front lines. It's a strategic position that aims the big, booming gun at the enemy target. It paves the way for the front-line troops to advance. Whatever your position, remember that nothing the enemy throws at you can crush and defeat you. Wage warfare in the position God has entrusted to you and keep advancing the kingdom of God. Blessings.
